We started using learndirect-futures because it is a comprehensive package. It’s not a quick fix, the application actually engages a person over time and I feel that our clients really do get something out of using it. The quality of information means that our clients become much more engaged and get much more out of using it in the long run.
The introduction of learndirect-futures into ELFLC has gone well. The staff have found it very easy to use, people like the look of it. We’ve assigned a member of staff to champion the use of learndirect-futures within ELFLC and that has gone very well. He even accessed the application while he was in Japan recently! The supporting materials are all very useful and help us promote the application internally.
He has been using learndirect-futures with our 2nd Chance Learners (18-24’s). These are disaffected young people who have been through quite a bit in their lives. The great thing about it is that it has caught their attention, opened their minds about the skills they possess and has also played a key motivational role for them. The application absorbs them and they love the medium – they actually ask to log onto it. Nothing we’ve ever used has brought out this type of reaction before.
Before we started to use learndirect-futures with clients, I worried that the language level might be too high for the majority of them. However, it really hasn’t been an issue at all – people have no trouble carrying out any of the interactive exercises.
Compared to other IT based career products, learndirect-futures is the most educationally sound product I have seen. It is sophisticated, comprehensive, and incorporates so many helpful additional features.
