Axia CitizenConnect are proud to announce our sponsorship of the TUCtv Online Training & Development feature for the Trades Union Congress which takes place at the Wintergardens in Blackpool from 9 12 September 2002.
Axia Citizenconnect develop internet based applications designed to improve access to learning and also provide guidance and information about future careers. Our most well known product is learndirect-futures which is available via the learndirect website.
We have also created "The Learning Zone" for the Royal College of Nursing, an online application that has a number of features including a tool for nurses to build up a portfolio of their learning that they can present to an employer to demonstrate their continuous professional development.
Mr Chris Peat OBE has recently been seconded to the company. As the then manager of the East Leeds Family Learning Centre he was responsible for developing with TESCO and USDAW the pioneering Job Guarantee programme.
This programme came to the notice of senior politicians and officials because of its success in helping long term unemployed people into work. What is less well known is the fact that between them the former trainees achieved 663 qualifications between them and they all acquired IT skills.
He comments that;
I am working with this company because I believe that they have developed a way of using ICT and the Internet that opens up learning opportunities, especially to those who because of their patterns of work cannot access learning through traditional methods.
Steve Walker Managing Director of Axia CitizenConnect adds his thoughts.
We are hoping to create relationships with other Trade Unions so that we can work with them on providing a real benefit to their members by providing a way of making lifelong learning opportunities fully accessible.
The TUCtv On line Training and Development feature will be shown throughout the Trades Union Congress exhibition and congress halls on 12 September 2002. The 10-minute feature will include footage on the work of Axia Citizenconnect and edited highlights from the speech of the Education and Skills Secretary, Estelle Morris that will take place on the previous day.
