This year Axia CitizenConnect is exhibiting at the TUC Congress in Blackpool from 9 to 12 September. TUCtv is being introduced at this year's Congress, this is a daily news programme to keep delegates abreast of issues and
developments during Congress.
Axia CitizenConnect has been approached to sponsor the feature on Online Training & Development. Chris Peat OBE has recently been seconded to the company - as the then manager of the East Leeds Family Learning Centre, he was responsible for developing with Tesco and USDAW the pioneering Job Guarantee Programme.
This programme came to the notice of senior politicians and officials because of its success in helping long term unemployed people into work. What is less well known is the fact that between them the former trainees achieved 663 qualifications between them and they all acquired IT skills. He comments that:
' I am working with Axia CitizenConnect because I believe that they have developed a way of using ITC and the Internet that opens up learning opportunities, especially to those who because of their patterns of work cannot access learning through traditional methods.'
The TUCtv On line Training and Development feature will be shown throughout the Trades Union Congress exhibition and congress halls on 12 September 2002. The 10-minute feature will include footage on the work of Axia CitizenConnect and edited highlights from the speech of the Education and Skills Secretary, Estelle Morris.
